The best rooftop bars in Malaga, picked by a local after years here. Cathedral and sea views, cocktails, live music, and a video tour of all 10.
The best rooftop bars in Malaga sit a few floors above the old town, level with the cathedral spire and the Alcazaba walls.
I live here, and I've spent years chasing them down. Every time I think I've found them all, another terrace opens above a hotel I'd walked past a hundred times. So far I've counted 27, and I still don't think that's the full list.
These 10 are my favourites. Each one earns its spot for a different reason. A sea view, a particular cocktail, live flamenco drifting across the rooftops. I've filmed a walkthrough of every single one, so you can see them before you climb.

1. Lolita Skyview

There's something about being next to an infinity pool with a cocktail in hand that instantly sets the mood.
Just off Calle Larios, The Only YOU hotel features a rooftop called Lolita Skyview, tucked into the heart of Málaga's historic centre. The view stretches across Plaza de la Constitución, the Cathedral, and all those terracotta rooftops that glow at sunset.
It's a little upscale but still totally relaxed, which is why it's my favourite rooftop in the city. You can order Mediterranean and Spanish dishes, sip something refreshing, and just let the city hum below you.

Sunrise at Gibralfaro Castle
Watch the sun rise over Malaga from the highest point in the city. The views stretch from the bullring to the port and beyond.
“The castle opens at 9am, but staying at the Parador gives you access to the terrace at dawn - before anyone else arrives.”
Parador de Malaga Gibralfaro - The only hotel with direct castle access. Wake up and walk straight onto the terrace for sunrise.

Just a few steps from the Alcazaba, La Terraza Alcazaba, on top of the Alcazaba Premium Hotel, offers one of the most scenic rooftop views in Málaga's historic centre.
You can see the fortress, the Cathedral of Málaga, and the busy old town streets all from one spot. The cocktail list is strong, with everything from local wines to craft beers and some of the best gin & tonics in the area.

When Is the Best Time to Visit a Malaga Rooftop Bar?
Aim for the hour before sunset. The terraces are calm, the light turns the cathedral gold, and you beat the evening rush for the best tables.
Most Malaga rooftops open from late morning, but they fill fast after 8pm in summer. I get there 30 to 45 minutes before sundown, order the first drink, and claim a railing seat before the crowd arrives.
For uninterrupted views, La Terraza Molina Lario and the 15th-floor AC Hotel Málaga Palacio catch the last light best.
4. Vincci Larios Diez

Right on Calle Larios, the rooftop at Vincci Larios Diez gives you one of the best city-centre views in Málaga.
From the terrace, you're eye-level with the cathedral, and the rooftops stretch out in every direction. It feels intimate and romantic, especially in the evening when the lights come on and the street below glows. The design is clean and modern, and the menu blends Mediterranean flavours with a creative twist.
I usually like to have dinner inside the restaurant, which is sleek and quiet, then head out to the terrace for cocktails and views. It's ideal for a calm night out in the middle of the city.

5. La Terraza de San Juan

La Terraza de San Juan is one of my go-to rooftops after date night. Sitting just above the Málaga Premium Hotel, it gives you a clear, close-up view of the Cathedral of Málaga that feels almost surreal at night.
The cathedral glows like a candle, casting warm light across the terrace while the distant Montes de Málaga fade into the background. The space is split into cosy zones with loungers and high tables, and the atmosphere stays relaxed even when it's busy.

Do You Need to Book a Rooftop Bar in Malaga?
For drinks, no. Most Malaga rooftops are walk-in only — you take the lift up and find a spot.
For dinner on a summer weekend, book ahead. The hotel terraces with restaurants, like Vincci Larios Diez and Áurea, take reservations and lose their best tables early.
The smaller bars don't take bookings at all. At Chinitas Urban Hostel the terrace is tiny, so arrive before 7pm at the weekend or you'll be waiting on the stairs.
7. Áurea Rooftop Bar at Hotel Salles

On the 7th floor of Salles Hotel Málaga Centro, Áurea Rooftop gives you one of the most complete views in the city: the Cathedral of Málaga, Alcazaba, Gibralfaro, and the harbour all in one glance.
The design mixes warm wood and terracotta with a small pool and sun loungers. During the day, it's perfect for soaking up the sun with a drink and light snacks. At night, the energy shifts with Mediterranean tapas, live flamenco, jazz sets, or DJs, depending on the evening. It's open year-round, and they even have heaters when it cools down, which makes it one of the most versatile rooftops in Málaga.

9. B-Heaven

I headed up to B‑Heaven atop the Barceló Málaga, and instantly loved the setting, bright, modern, and relaxed, with a heated pool and loungers that give it a resort feel even in the city.
From the 8th‑floor terrace, you get uninterrupted 360° views of Málaga's skyline, including the harbour, city rooftops, and the distant mountains.

What Should You Wear to a Malaga Rooftop Bar?
Smart casual covers almost everywhere. A sundress, clean trainers, or a shirt will get you in anywhere on this list.
The hotel rooftops lean a little smarter after dark, so leave the beachwear and flip-flops for the sand. Daytime pool terraces like B-Heaven are relaxed about swimwear with a cover-up, while only the dressier dinner spots expect anything close to polished.
10. Chinitas Urban Hostel

On the rooftop of Chinitas Urban Hostel, the intimate Terraza Chinitas feels like a hidden corner of Málaga's historic centre, floating just above the tiled rooftops. It's a relaxed, unassuming space with white sofas and a small bar, offering a close-up view of the Cathedral of Málaga that feels personal and warm.
They serve simple cocktails and affordable bar bites. This is where the locals come, so expect it to get very loud and very crowded.
Go and you'll get a real taste of Spanish culture, rubbing shoulders with people from all over the world.

Find the Perfect Rooftop for You
Ten rooftops, ten different reasons to climb. Some of the best bars in Malaga aren't at street level at all. They're a lift ride above it.
If you're after something specific, I've sorted them by what they do best:
- Sunset rooftop bars — where to catch the light drop into the sea
- Cathedral-view rooftops — the terraces level with the spire
- Rooftop bars with live music — flamenco, jazz, and DJ nights
- Romantic rooftop bars — for a quiet date night
- Rooftop pool day passes — swim and drink at the same height
Whichever you pick, get there early and order something cold.
