City views, craft cocktails with burgers and pizzas, and a garden-inspired lounge vibe.
Soho has the best street art in Málaga, and one rooftop looks straight down on it. EFECTO Rooftop sits atop the boutique Hotel Mariposa, on Calle Casas de Campos, and most locals still call it by its old name, Le Rooftop.
I came up for a tinto de verano before dinner and stayed past sunset. The terrace runs to a green, garden-inspired design, with chunky hanging chandeliers that light up after dark.
It's not a panoramic skyline bar. The views are partial and close-up, framed by graffiti and the cathedral beyond, so manage expectations. Below I cover the vibe, the menu and prices, the layout, booking, dress code, and how to find it.
Best For
- Couples looking for a stylish aperitif or sundowner with cityscape views
- Urban explorers who enjoy chic décor, signature cocktails, and a social but not overwhelming vibe
- Small groups seeking a scenic spot for pre-dinner drinks or a casual celebration
- Design lovers who appreciate contemporary aesthetics and thoughtful rooftop layouts
Not Ideal For
- Budget travellers, prices reflect the five-star setting

Check PricesIs Le Rooftop the Same as EFECTO Rooftop?
Yes. It's one venue with two names. The rooftop atop Hotel Mariposa opened as Le Rooftop (often listed as Le Rooftop 17, after the street number) and now trades as EFECTO Rooftop. The hotel's own site still uses the Le Rooftop name in places, which causes the confusion.
Either way, you want Calle Casas de Campos 17, in Soho. It's open to the public, not just hotel guests. If you're hunting for a "bar Mariposa" or a "Soho rooftop" in Málaga, this is the one. For other terraces nearby, see La Terraza de Valeria a few streets over.
The Vibe
Design does the heavy lifting here. Greenery, low contemporary furniture, and a white leaping bull statue give the terrace its character, and the chandeliers turn it into a proper evening space once they light up. It's built for lingering rather than a quick drink.
The crowd is social but never loud. You'll find hotel guests, Soho creatives, and visitors who've tracked down the Mariposa name. The music stays ambient, so you can still hear the person across the table.
By sunset the terrace warms to a golden tone and the cathedral catches the last light. Arrive by 7pm if you want a lounger before the after-work crowd fills them.
Opening Hours
- Monday: Closed
- Tuesday: 16:00 - 23:00
- Wednesday: 16:00 - 00:00
- Thursday: 16:00 - 00:00
- Friday: 16:00 - 00:00
- Saturday: 16:00 - 00:00
- Sunday: 16:00 - 23:00
The rooftop opens from 4pm and closes Mondays. Hours shift with the season and the weather, so check the hotel's site or call ahead before a special trip.
Menu & Prices
Drinks
The drinks list is pricey, but you're paying for the setting. Signature cocktails run 12-16 euros and change with the season. Draft beers are around 5-6 euros, including Victoria, Málaga's own brew, on tap. There's a decent wine selection by the glass. Check the current list on the hotel's rooftop page.
Food
The food is built for grazing, not a sit-down dinner. Gourmet burgers run 14-18 euros, wood-fired pizzas land around 12-16 euros, and there are sharing platters for groups. It pairs well with drinks, and sometimes a pizza on a rooftop is exactly the point.

The View & Seating
The views here are close-up, not sweeping. From Soho you look straight onto the area's street art and graffiti, with the cathedral and rooftops behind. If you want a wide panorama over the bay, this isn't the bar for it.
The terrace splits into two halves. One side is a sun deck with loungers for daytime lazing, the other is the bar terrace with tables and the long cocktail counter. Funky figurative sculptures, including the white bull, mark the boundary between the two.
Seating options include:
- Sun loungers (even though there's no pool, they're perfect for relaxing)
- Large cushioned loungers designed for groups
- Intimate tables for couples
- Bar-side seating for quick drinks
- Varied seating zones that cater to different moods and group sizes
How to Make a Reservation
You don't strictly need a booking, but I'd reserve for evenings and weekends, and through summer it's worth it. The terrace isn't huge, and the loungers go first.
Walk-ins are welcome any time, with the catch that seating is limited. Get there early if you want a lounger with a view rather than a high table by the bar.
Book through the hotel's website or call the front desk directly. Flag a birthday or anniversary when you book, and they'll often hold a better table.
Sunrise at Gibralfaro Castle
Watch the sun rise over Malaga from the highest point in the city. The views stretch from the bullring to the port and beyond.
“The castle opens at 9am, but staying at the Parador gives you access to the terrace at dawn - before anyone else arrives.”
Parador de Malaga Gibralfaro - The only hotel with direct castle access. Wake up and walk straight onto the terrace for sunrise.
Check AvailabilityDress Code
The vibe here is more relaxed than some of Malaga's upscale rooftops, but still has a stylish edge.
What works:
- Smart casual attire
- Stylish summer dresses
- Clean jeans with a nice top
- Fashionable sneakers or sandals
- Soho-appropriate creative looks
What doesn't work:
- Beachwear or swimwear
- Overly formal attire (you'd feel out of place)
- Scruffy or worn clothing
Access & Getting There
Enter through the main entrance of Hotel Mariposa Malaga, located just steps from the city centre in the heart of Soho. From the lobby, take the elevator to the rooftop level.
By foot: The hotel is centrally located in Soho, walkable from most city centre locations. Look for the street art-covered buildings nearby, and you'll know you're in the right area.
By car: Street parking in Soho can be challenging. The underground parking at Calle Alemania or near the Muelle Uno area is your best bet.
By public transport: Multiple bus lines serve the Alameda Principal area, which is a short walk away. The hotel is also accessible from the Maria Zambrano train station by foot or a quick taxi.

Our Verdict
I'd go back. The design carries it, the burgers and pizzas mean you can stay for food without a formal dinner, and the Soho setting feels different from the polished hotel rooftops up in the centre. Just don't come expecting a wide skyline view.
Best for: Design lovers, couples after a stylish sundowner, and anyone wanting Soho's creative side from above.
Skip if: You're on a tight budget, or you want a panoramic skyline over street-level graffiti.
